  36. Actually the Cardinal modems do not contain the version of Rockwell
  37. chips that drive us (ISP tech support workers) crazy.  Cardinal modems
  38. have Rockwell ACx chips.  The Rockwell chips that do not perform
  39. compression or error correction are in the ATx line.  (Software
  40. drivers are available for Windows users that need these capabilities).
  41. A good init string for the MVP144WIN is:
  42. AT&F&C1&D2&K3\N3
  43. Almost *every* time I see this problem with a Cardinal modem, it is
  44. because the modem has been initialized for fax transmission on Windows
  45. startup.  Another thing to check is your comm driver.  Check in the
  46. windows\system.ini file for the following line:
  47. comm.drv=xxxx.drv
  48. If you use Trumpet Winsock, it was probably changed to
  49. comm.drv=twcomm.drv.  Cardinal modems tend to work best with
  50. comm.drv=comm.drv.
